Formulation
Five ways to quench
Five molecular weights of hyaluronic acid, each a different size of the same water-loving molecule, alongside algae-based biotech actives and the plant-born moisture of tamarind seed. Nothing crowded in for show, only what the skin genuinely needs to feel replenished all the way through.
Evidence
You needn't take our word
Hyaluronic acid is a well-known humectant that draws in and holds water, and tamarind seed polysaccharide binds water in much the same way — the foundation rests on the ingredients' own chemistry. Oio Lab also reports clinically tested hydration of up to +49.5% after seven days (the brand's own testing).
Community
A thirst put to rest
What makes a true source of moisture loved is always the same: the feeling of noticeable, thirst-quenching hydration — skin that gets to drink and feels grateful. It is the promise the formula is built on, and where we hope your skin will recognise itself.
Fits real life
Easy to live with
Lightweight and non-greasy, it settles quickly and invisibly, ready for the next step without weighing down an already-full morning. A moment in the routine that feels pleasant rather than one more task.
Packaging
Made with care
Actives grown through biotech from fungi and algae, and a formula the brand states is at least 99.38% natural origin — PETA-certified cruelty-free. A quiet care for both the skin and what lies behind it.

For those who enjoy going deeper
Every product on our Top Shelf is supported by research before it earns its place. Here you'll find the evidence, ingredients and references behind our evaluation.
01Ingredient spotlight
Four forms of hyaluronic acid — Aquasphere is built on a spectrum of hyaluronic acid at different molecular weights: crosspolymer, sodium hyaluronate, hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid and pure hyaluronic acid. The point of using several molecular weights is that they act at different skin depths — smaller fragments nearer the surface, larger ones as a moisture-binding film. Evidence note: topical hyaluronic acid measurably increases skin hydration over weeks.
Tamarind seed polysaccharide (Tamarindus Indica) — a plant-derived structure that acts as a botanical alternative to hyaluronic acid, with high water-retention capacity. Evidence note: tamarind seed xyloglucan is bioactive and is described as promoting keratinocyte and fibroblast proliferation.
Acetyl glucosamine (Disodium Acetyl Glucosamine Phosphate) — a building block that can support the skin's own moisture balance from within. Evidence note: acetyl glucosamine can stimulate the skin's own hyaluronan production and support hydration.
Algae and marine extracts (Chlorella Vulgaris, Chondrus Crispus, Hydrolyzed Algin, Sea Water) — a biotech complex contributing oligosaccharides and minerals. The maker reports that the algae complex delivers water-binding polysaccharides and minerals that support the hydration experience.
02Complete INCI
03Scientific evidence
hp's assessment rests on four individual ingredient studies rather than a single product study. The verified evidence covers hyaluronic acid (measurably increased hydration over weeks, with different molecular weights active at different skin depths), tamarind seed polysaccharide (bioactive, high water retention), glycerin (well-documented humectant) and acetyl glucosamine (can stimulate the skin's own hyaluronan).
Beyond the ingredient data, Oio Lab reports that the product is clinically tested with a skin-hydration increase of up to +49.5% after 7 days. That figure is brand-reported and has not been independently verified by hp. We relay it as a maker's claim, not as a confirmed result.
04Our evaluation notes
- We valued that hydration is built on several molecular weights of hyaluronic acid rather than one — a more considered moisture profile than a typical HA serum.
- The formulation is barrier-friendly and humectant-led (glycerin, pentylene glycol), with no alcohol high in the list.
- Ingredients are stated to be COSMOS/Ecocert-compliant and PETA cruelty-free — consistent with hp's selection grounds.
- A tight, usable formula that fits a minimalist routine: hydration before an oil or cream, morning or evening.
- Honesty in reporting: the clinical figure (+49.5%) is the maker's own and is presented as such, not as proven.
05Frequently asked questions
Can I combine Aquasphere with retinol or other actives?
Yes. This is a hydrating product without exfoliating acids or retinoids, so it works well as a moisture layer alongside most actives. A common approach is to apply it before a retinol or acid treatment to support hydration. If your skin is sensitive or your routine is specific, consult a skin professional.
Is it suitable during pregnancy or perimenopause?
The INCI contains no retinoids or exfoliating acids and is dominated by humectants. Hydration and barrier support are often relevant in perimenopause when skin can become drier. We do not give medical advice, however — during pregnancy or breastfeeding, check with your midwife, doctor or the brand before starting.
Does the product contain fragrance?
It contains Rosa Damascena (rose oil/water) and citronellol, a naturally occurring fragrance component. The scent therefore comes from botanical sources rather than synthetic perfume, but citronellol is a known potential allergen. If you are fragrance-sensitive, do a patch test first.
How should it be stored and how long does it keep?
Store cool and dark, well sealed, away from direct sunlight — this protects the more delicate botanical and biotech ingredients. Follow the period-after-opening symbol (PAO, e.g. 6M/12M) on the packaging for time after opening. Specific shelf life is stated by the maker.
Morning or evening?
Both work. As a hydrator it can be used morning and evening, applied to clean, slightly damp skin before an oil or cream. In the morning, finish the routine with sunscreen.
What does the stated +49.5% hydration mean?
It is a brand-reported figure: Oio Lab states the product is clinically tested with a skin-hydration increase of up to 49.5% after 7 days. hp has not independently verified the test and relays it as the maker's claim, not a confirmed result.
