Skin in change isn't damaged skin — it's skin that reacts. Through hormonal shifts, stress and pregnancy the barrier gives way more easily, and cleansing becomes the moment that either preserves it or disturbs it. We chose Mineral Cleanser because it cleans without emptying. Kaolin lifts away dirt and makeup while oils, squalane and oat stay behind to keep skin soft. It's fragrance-free and preservative-free — two things reactive skin rarely needs more of. Skinome makes it in Sweden with the skin's own microbiome in mind. It earned its place because it holds up over time, not because it trends.

Five reasons to trust the choice

Formulation

Clean power, nothing spare

Mineral kaolin clay lifts away the day's oil and grime, while squalane and niacinamide quietly return what most cleansers strip — a mineral clean that cares for your barrier instead of raiding it.

Evidence

Well-studied, not just promised

Niacinamide and squalane are two of skincare's most-studied barrier allies — well-documented for supporting the skin's own resilience. Skinome formulates and tests its products for sensitive skin, so you don't have to take our word for it.

Community

Clean without the tightness

The word people keep returning to is comfort — skin that feels clean but never tight, gentle enough for sensitive days, and still hydrated afterward.

Fits real life

Made for real mornings

A little goes a long way, and it lifts everyday makeup without a second product — one honest step that earns its place on a small shelf.

Packaging

Made in Sweden

Made in Sweden, with vegan squalane from sugar fermentation — small, honest choices rather than loud claims.

✦ Research Library

For those who enjoy going deeper

Every product on our Top Shelf is supported by research before it earns its place. Here you'll find the evidence, ingredients and references behind our evaluation.

01Ingredient spotlight

Kaolin — A gentle mineral clay chosen for its ability to bind and lift sebum and dirt from the skin surface, making the cleanse effective without harsh surfactants. Verified evidence: adsorbs sebum and oil and helps balance oily skin.

Niacinamide — Chosen because it works beyond the cleanse itself and supports the skin barrier. Mechanism: increases moisture in the outer horny layer and reinforces barrier function. Verified evidence: increases stratum corneum hydration and supports the barrier.

Squalane — A skin-like emollient that offsets the degreasing effect of a clay-based cleanser so the skin is not left tight. Mechanism: skin-compatible emollient with barrier and antioxidant support. Verified evidence confirms this profile.

Lactobacillus Ferment — A postbiotic ingredient the maker includes for the skin's microbial environment. Here we are honest: this is a promising but less robustly documented ingredient than the others, and we highlight it as a complement rather than a proven active.

02Complete INCI
Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Glycerin, Kaolin, Coco-Betaine, Polyglyceryl-3 Dicitrate/Stearate, C10-18 Triglycerides, Lactobacillus Ferment, Avena Sativa Kernel Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Squalane, Niacinamide, Dextrin, Polydextrose, Amylopectin, Sodium Cocoyl Isethionate, Salicylic Acid.
03Scientific evidence

Six of the ingredients in this formula rest on published ingredient research: niacinamide, kaolin, squalane, salicylic acid, oat (Avena Sativa) and glycerin. Together they point to a cleanser that does its job — binding sebum and exfoliating gently — while supporting the skin barrier with moisture and emollients.

Beyond the ingredient evidence, the maker reports its own use tests. The maker reports a 30-participant, four-week study in which 100% found the product suitable for sensitive skin, 97% found their skin clean and 97% found it hydrated. The maker also states the product is dermatologically and eye-irritation tested with no irritation observed. These are the maker's own results, not independent clinical trials. The product carries no certifications we can verify.

04Our evaluation notes
  • Barrier-supportive balance: the clay degreases while squalane, glycerin and oat offset any tightness.
  • Considered active level: niacinamide and salicylic acid add extra work to a step you do daily anyway.
  • Fits a minimalist routine — cleansing, gentle exfoliation and barrier support in one product.
  • The ingredient list is short and legible without needless filler; we value that.
  • We are transparent that Lactobacillus Ferment is less documented than the other heroes.
05Frequently asked questions

Can I use it with retinoids or other acids?

The formula contains salicylic acid at a low, cleansing level. Because a cleanser is rinsed off, the risk of over-exfoliation is low, but if you already use retinoids or strong acids your skin may become more sensitive. Introduce it slowly and read your skin — if in doubt, consult a skin professional or the brand.

Is it suitable during pregnancy or perimenopause?

The product contains low-level salicylic acid in a rinse-off cleanser plus niacinamide and emollients that are often felt to be gentle. We do not give medical advice, however — during pregnancy or hormonal change, check with your midwife, doctor or a skin therapist before adding new active ingredients.

Does it contain fragrance?

The ingredient list (INCI) does not include perfume (Parfum/Fragrance) or listed fragrance allergens. Based on the stated INCI, the product is therefore unscented.

Morning or evening?

It works at either time. In the evening the clay and salicylic acid help lift away the day's sebum and dirt; in the morning it gives a gentle refresh. If you use strong actives at night, it can suit you to place this in the morning.

How should it be stored and how long does it last?

Store cool and dry, avoid direct sunlight, and close the pack well — this benefits emollients like squalane and the ferment-based ingredient. We have no verified shelf-life figure; follow the period-after-opening (PAO) symbol and the maker's information on the pack.

Is it suited to sensitive or oily skin?

The pairing of sebum-binding kaolin with soothing oat and squalane makes it relevant for both oily and sensitive skin. The maker also reports that 100% of participants in their use study found it suitable for sensitive skin. If your skin is reactive, patch test on a small area first.
